Shuki is our Hero, say his friends and family, or is He?

Shuki fell in the Line of Duty. In a Military operation; not in a War. Shuki’s friends bestowed upon him a medal of valor and Heroism WHY?

Yehoshua (shuki) was viewed as a hero because he had a specific distinction of courage and ability. He inspired friends and all people around him with positive ideals and encouragements never to give up on their dreams. Shuki was a hero because he always put the needs of others before his own, was willing to risk his life for anyone. His heroism was just trying to to reach the highest peak as a Simple Soldier in the Israel Defense Forces. His heroism was demonstrating quality performance with unlimited courage, to reach the Elite Unit Yahalom (Diamond).

This is well versed in the words of the letter written to Shuki by his friend Aviv Nadav.

“A HERO IS NOT ONLY A STRONG MAN WHO WAS IN A WAR, NOR A MAN WHO RETURN HOME FROM CAPTIVITY, AFTER A LONG PERIOD HE IS ALSO THE MAN WHO FOUGHT AGAINST ALL ODDS DESPITE ALL DIFFICULTIES AGAINST THE DEMANDING MILITARY FRAMWORK , AND DEFEATED IT. YOU ARE ONE OF THEM AND FOR THAT YOU DESERVE THE TITLE OF A “HERO”

This idea of a warless Hero was confirmed by Shuki’s commanders. they recounted that during the Cadet training (tironut), the Soldier were asked to fill out the Sociometric form,

Who is your best friend → Shuki
Who would you like to serve with and to see on your team in an important operation → Shuki
Who would you like to see made commander → Shuki

They were all surprised to learn who was the top favorite soldier chosen among hundreds of his peers.

This point was conveyed and made clearer by the Chief of Brigadier General Benny Ganz, to Leah, Shuki’s Mom.   When she travelled with him to Poland during March of the Living. he told her that from the information he had gather from Shuki’s Commander and friends, in his view he had already been granted commendation (a high medal, pin of bravery and valor) by his friends.

The score that Shuki received on the SocioMetric review, was on of the best he had ever seen. In the IDF, or any Army as a matter of fact it is not common to entrust your life in  the hand of a person.
